About Us

HARDER STONEROCK LLP, founded in January 2013, is based in Los Angeles, with offices in New York and Washington DC. We specialize in reputation protection and litigation, with a focus on business, media, defamation, privacy, First Amendment, entertainment and intellectual property cases.

Our clients have included numerous Fortune 500 companies, high-net worth individuals, A-list motion picture and television actors, major entertainment producers, television personalities, professional sports figures and political officials, including the President and First Lady of the United States, and multiple US Senators, among many others.

HARDER STONEROCK is honored to have been selected as one of only eight boutique law firms in the State of California by Chambers and Partners (the world’s top legal ranking company) in its California Spotlight Guide 2025 in Media & Entertainment.

Our founding partner Charles Harder was named “California Lawyer of the Year” in Media (the CLAY Award) by California Lawyer magazine, and also has been listed repeatedly in the Top 100 “Power Lawyers” in America (one of only 30 litigators) by The Hollywood Reporter. Mr. Harder also has been listed repeatedly in the “Top 100 Lawyers in California” by the Daily Journal legal news publication. Mr. Harder has also been named a “Super Lawyer” by Thomson Reuters, and an “IP Star” by Euromoney, in each of the past nine consecutive years.

Mr. Harder also serves as Editor and Co-Author of ENTERTAINMENT LAW & LITIGATION (LexisNexis 2011-2025 editions) (Matthew Bender). Many legal experts consider the book to be the definitive treatise on the subject and it is used as the textbook for law school classes, including at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles.

Our managing partner Ryan Stonerock has been selected a Southern California “Super Lawyer” for the past five consecutive years, and prior to that, was named a Super Lawyer “Rising Star” for ten years.

Our firm is perhaps most well-known for obtaining a $140 million jury verdict for Hulk Hogan (real name Terry Bollea) in a right of privacy action against Gawker Media, which caused Gawker Media to file for bankruptcy and sell its assets in a bankruptcy auction, and for our successes in high-profile cases on behalf of the President and First Lady. Our achievements, however, go far beyond those matters.
